6/9/2025 – Since April 2023, Sudan has been plunged into a violent civil war between rival military factions, with devastating consequences for civilians. More than 12 million people have been forced to flee their homes — and, as in most humanitarian crises, the needs of the people with disabilities are overlooked or forgotten. Whether it’s a pre-existing condition or something caused by the violence, like amputations or paralysis, disabled people’s needs in Sudan are severely neglected.
Our friends at Hope and Relief and Rehabilitation for Disabilities Support (HRRDS) are on the ground in the southern state of South Kordofan to make sure people with disabilities get the care and support they need, while also developing programs focused on rehabilitation and opportunities for income-generating labor. Check out photos from their latest training program, where they hosted skills workshops and began distributing startup funds to help displaced and disabled individuals launch micro-businesses—like growing food or sewing—to rebuild their lives.
