Midia Indígena, Guajajara, and Tembe forest guardians

Midia Indígena is a communications network and collective of young Brazilian Indigenous people created in 2017 to strengthen Indigenous voices in the media. The Guajajara and Tembe are both Indigenous tribes located in the Brazilian Amazon and are involved in the fight against extractive industries on their ancestral lands. All three groups were featured in the film “We Are Guardians,” by Indigenous filmmaker Edivan Guajajara. The film follows Indigenous guardians of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil as they fight over territories being ravaged by extractive industries.

A 2023 grant to these three organizations from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported the purchase of drones, radios, cameras, and motorcycles to aid in the monitoring and protecting of their forests from illegal loggers.
