Mendel University

Located in the Czech Republic, Mendel University’s Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology works to conserve the endangered endemic Boswellia trees on Socotra Archipelago. Boswellia trees have medical, sacred, and ritual uses. In Socotra, the bark of some trees is used a a diaphoretic and to treat rheumatism, intestinal problems, nervous disorders, and skin diseases. Socotra has the largest number of unique Boswellia species anywhere in the world. The project aims to cultivate Boswellia in home gardens, replant it from wild source populations, and establish nurseries with local stakeholders.
