Bikes Not Bombs

Bikes Not Bombs uses bicycles as vehicles for social change. Since 1984, Bikes Not Bombs has been a nexus of bicycle recycling and community empowerment both in lower income neighborhoods in Boston and throughout the Global South. The organization supports international partners in Africa, Central America, and the Caribbean with bicycle shipments and technical assistance to create opportunities for self-determined social and economic empowerment.

A 2024 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported Bikes Not Bomb’s project in St. Kitts & Nevis.

A 2021 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported Bikes Not Bombs’s projects in Kenya and Rwanda.

A grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported the growth and sustainability of Bikes Not Bombs’ partner Ability Bikes Cooperative in Koforidua, Ghana. Ability Bikes is a cooperative bike shop owned and operated by physically challenged people that provides high-quality bicycle sales and service as a way of re-defining the role of physically challenged people in society.
