Marathon of Afghanistan

The Marathon of Afghanistan is the first-ever International Marathon in Afghanistan. The event provided a chance for international and local runners of all ethnicities, genders, and socio-economic backgrounds to compete in the main event or the associated 10km race.

A 2016 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported travel and accommodation costs for the 2016 Marathon of Afghanistan, allowing runners from all the major cities of Afghanistan to compete and make the event a truly national race. In a country often divided on ethnic lines, this was a great symbol of national unity.
