11/15/22 — Activists on the island of Socotra are working to save rare plants such as the dragon’s blood tree, which has in recent years been staging a remarkable comeback. This tree along with other stunning plants come from the Socotra Archipelago, a set of islands and islets in the northwest Indian Ocean near the Gulf of Aden and part of the Republic of Yemen. The area has a distinct biodiversity — 37% of Socotra’s 825 plant species, 90% of its reptile species and 95% of its land snail species do not occur anywhere else in the world. (Source: UNESCO). We are proud excited about the work being done by our friends at the Socotra Society for the Conservation of Endangered Flora SSCEF, an NGO which works to conserve endangered flora and fauna in the Socotra Archipelago. Their work includes bringing together scientists and communities, educating youth and conserving and rehabilitating habitats.
