6/30/2023 – Russia destroyed the Nova Kakhovka Dam, a major dam and hydroelectric power station in the Kherson region of Ukraine, on June 6th, causing a catastrophic flood that has resulted in a humanitarian and environmental catastrophe. Hundreds of thousands of residents downriver from the dam were forced to flee their homes. Entire towns and villages have been swallowed by the rising waters. The long-term consequences, including soil and water contamination, will reverberate throughout the region for years to come, affecting Ukrainian livelihoods and the region’s biodiversity.
In the face of this tragedy, our ally Razom for Ukraine has swiftly responded to provide aid to the flood victims. Their dedicated team has been on the ground, delivering essential supplies, food, and shelter to those in need.
