Union of Agricultural Work Committees

The Union of Agricultural Work Committees (UAWC) is a Palestine-based NGO focused on agricultural development. It is one of the largest agricultural development institutions in Palestine and has operated for over thirty years. Their work has involved the monitoring of destruction of Palestinian land, seedlings and agriculture by Israeli attacks, the publication of reports and the organization of international solidarity partners. They have also provided direct relief in the form of food baskets and other resources. The organization envisions “a free Palestinian farmer, committed to her/his national, socio-economic and cultural rights, a believer in democratic practices, within a food secured society with sovereignty over its resources.”

A 2022 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network helped UAWC distributes seeds/seedlings and cultivation inputs to 50 farmers in the Hebron area negatively impacted by the pandemic, with an emphasis on women farmers who are also breadwinners for their families. Farmers in this region grow their crops on lands that are close to Israeli settlements and thus face re-occurring settlers’ violence where their crops are targeted, uprooted and burned.
