Mongol Environmental Conservation
Mongol Environmental Conservation is the U.S. branch of the Mongol Ecology Center (MEC), a Mongolian non-governmental organization. MEC’s vision is to ensure a thriving future for Mongolia by transferring international best practices to preserve the natural and cultural resources of Mongolia. Specifically, MEC and its local partners are working to strengthen the Protected Areas system. MEC is well-poised to successfully carry out this work due to its relationships with relevant Mongolian government and business leaders, along with its thorough knowledge of Mongolia’s national parks and their surrounding communities.
Support from the Cultures of Resistance Network contributed to MEC’s campaign to protect the cultural traditions and natural resources of Lake Hovsgol, which contains 70% of Mongolia’s fresh water and provides a habitat to many threatened and endangered animals. Aspects of the campaign include promotion of eco-tourism, forest conservation, pollution monitoring, and public education.
