Kashmir Education Initiative

The Kashmir Education Initiative (KEI) considers education to be the primary imperative in the empowerment and development of individuals, institutions, and communities. KEI has operated in the Indian administered Kashmir since 2007.  Ongoing violence in the region has significantly affected Kashmir’s educational institutions.  KEI has approached this problem by building educational opportunities through scholarships and running training programs.

Grants in 2014, 2017, 2018, 2020, and 2024 from the Cultures of Resistance Network contributed towards the scholarships of students through KEI’s Sponsor1Scholar-High School program. The sponsorship covers all educational and related expenses for the scholarship recipients, including tuition fees, expenses on books and supplies, school uniforms, and transportation.

In addition to support from the Cultures of Resistance Network, director iara lee arranged an outside grant for the Kashmir Education Initiative in 2022, which supported one of their Tech Labs and around 50 students in their High School Scholarship Program.
