Jerusalem International Film Festival is a result of Gaza’s need for an international film festival that is open to the world. Gaza Strip is suffering from academic poverty—even the filmmakers in Gaza are not particularly professional in cinematic films, except in very special cases for some of the directors whose talents were widely known. The vast majority of producers require a lot to produce movies that are fun, cinematic, and about the reality of Palestinian life. Additionally, Gaza does not have a single movie theatre, which contributes to the loss of the cinematic vision of the Palestinians.
A 2019 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported general operations for the festival.
