The Instituto de Defesa do Direito de Defesa (IDDD) works with criminal lawyers and human rights defenders to improve Brazil’s justice system. The organization works to reduce mass incarceration, institutional racism, authoritarianism, and other problems in the legal system. IDDD advocates for fair trials for all and provides legal defense to those that can’t afford a lawyer.
A 2023 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported IDDD’s Fine Penalties program dedicated to free legal service efforts for people with criminal fines.
A 2022 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported IDDD’s Prova Sob Suspeita program dedicated to reducing illegal arrests.
