Maziar Bahari (via artEast)

Maziar Bahari, an award-winning Canadian-Iranian documentary filmmaker and journalist, was detained in Iran on June 21, 2009, following Iran’s disputed presidential elections. No charges were brought against him and he remained isolated from the rest of the world, with no access to a lawyer, until Saturday, 17 October, 2009, when he was released on bail. The following Tuesday, 20 October, he returned to London, and has since resumed his work as a journalist and filmmaker.

Support from the Cultures of Resistance Network helped Bahari produce a film on former Iranian prime minister Mohammad Mosaddegh and the CIA-orchestrated coup of 1953.artEast served as a fiscal sponsor for this grant.
