Elevate Festival

Each year, the Elevate Festival presents a unique combination of critical political discourse, art, and contemporary music with the aim of fostering a better understanding of the most important issues of our time. Around 7,000 mostly young people gather in Graz, Austria, to attend the five-day festival to enjoy experimental music lineups and literature performances, as well as interdisciplinary political discussions, lectures, and workshops.

A 2016 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network helped organize multiple live-streamed discussion panels about music, art, and activism. Parts of the grant were also used to make possible the Mediachannel project, which transmitted the contents of the festival around the globe in real time. Cultures of Resistance was a partner of the project and also supplied content, which was streamed live.

A 2014 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network helped cover the travel costs of the international guests of a live-streamed discussion about music, art, and activism, one of that year’s main events.

A 2013 grant supported the Elevate Mediachannel project, which enabled most of the festival’s lectures and panel discussions to be videostreamed. Grants in 2011 and 2012 helped cover the travel costs of filmmakers presenting at the festival.
