Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR)

The Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) is a non-profit legal and educational organization dedicated to protecting and advancing the rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. CCR uses litigation proactively to advance the law in a positive direction, to empower poor communities and communities of color, to guarantee the rights of those with the fewest protections and least access to legal resources, to train the next generation of constitutional and human rights attorneys, and to strengthen the broader movement for constitutional and human rights. CCR has also challenged U.S government and U.S. corporate support and complicity in the Israeli occupation of Palestine and the policies used to enforce and continue the occupation.

Grants in 2021 and 2024 from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported CCR’s work around torture, war crimes, and militarism.

A 2012 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network contributed to highlighting the importance of the Alien Tort Statute for prosecuting human rights abuses in U.S. Courts, no matter where they happen in the world. A 2011 grant went towards CCR’s Accountability Campaign. A grant in 2010 supported CCR’s work in the Middle East and North Africa region, and contributed to the organization’s work supporting the participants of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla, which the Israeli military attacked in international waters on May 31, 2010.
