Baladna

Baladna is a grassroots organization that seeks to strengthen the principles of democracy, gender equality, tolerance, youth empowerment, and community-building among young Arabs living in Israel. The organization is unique in its efforts to empower Palestinian youth by putting them in charge of the varied programs that operate out of its cultural center. Baladna hopes that by strengthening young people’s sense of community and identity, it will cultivate a long-term tradition of social engagement, activism, and critical thinking about Palestinian culture.

A 2021 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported Baladna’s work responding to the escalation of violence in Palestine. The group worked with young people to build grassroots strategies to address the systemic vulnerabilities contributing to youth involvement in violent or criminal activity. The grant also paid for an organizer who supported the youth groups in identifying potential solutions and ways to advance them.

A 2012 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network contributed to the general operations of Baladna’s cultural center.
