Under blockade conditions, children in the Gaza Strip are deprived of secure spaces where they can play and learn. The Child Cinema Project aims to create such safe spaces and nurture the creativity of Gaza’s youth by hosting weekly screenings of children’s films in three of the most marginalized and under-served areas of the Strip. Followed by discussion, the screenings create opportunities for children to speak in their own voices and learn from each other; share ideas and work together, identify and address personal and collective challenges; and develop a culture of open-minded inquiry rather than one of fear.
A 2013 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported the program’s launch.
