Since 1994, CounterPunch has exposed how the underlying theories of free trade and globalization are wrong. Much of the magazine’s content questions the claims that neoliberal globalization is a win-win economic movement that will enrich the whole world and contribute to peace and democracy. CounterPunch has also reported consistently and in depth on militarism in the Middle East, military spending in the United States, labor, the environment, and indigenous rights.
A 2021 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported general operating for CounterPunch.
A 2012 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network contributed to the production of newsletters, the cultivation of new writers, and the creation of multimedia materials for broadening the magazine’s impact.
