Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence

The Brady Center’s mission is to reduce gun violence 25 percent by 2025. As with any epidemic, there are many approaches to eradicating  gun violence, and the center knows that the best courses of action differ for each form of gun violence and population impacted. Taking a public health approach, Brady designs evidence-based programs that address the root causes of the many forms of gun violence—including unintentional shootings, gun suicide, mass shootings, community gun violence, and more.

Transparency and accountability are key priorities for Brady, addressed through the Government Transparency for Gun Violence Prevention (GTGVP) program. The gun industry is uniquely protected from oversight and accountability, operating in the shadows. Through GTGVP, Brady uses Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA) requests and state public records acts to expose the gun lobby’s undue influence on policy and its impact on public safety, including how firearms-related laws and policies are being applied and enforced at all levels of government.
