United States Campaign for Burma (USCB)
The United States Campaign for Burma (USCB) is a U.S. based organization dedicated to empowering grassroots activists around the world to rally for human rights and to bring an end to the military dictatorship in Burma. The organization’s mission is to build a broad-based coalition of grassroots and institutional support for freedom in Burma. Its work has three primary objectives: to strengthen the position of rightful leaders of Burma, including 1991 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and the democratically elected party, the National League for Democracy, and ethnic leaders; to organize and advocate for international action to address the military regime’s war crimes and crimes against humanity in Burma by calling for the establishment of a UN-led Commission of Inquiry to investigate these international crimes in the country; and to work with and inform grassroots citizens, global partners, and the U.S. policy makers about Burma’s political, social, and economic crisis.
The grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network was used to develop more effective strategy and outreach for advocacy to put further pressure on the military regime in Burma as well as to raise awareness about Burma’s most pressing issues here in the U.S. USCB will continue to engage with its strong grassroots base through public education, leadership development initiatives, conferences, and advocacy campaigns, and leverage its support to promote freedom, democracy, and human rights in Burma.
