Tribeca Film Institute

The Tribeca Film Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts organization founded by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal, and Craig Hatkoff in the wake of September 11, 2001. TFI empowers filmmakers through grants and professional development, and is a resource for individual artists in the field. With the help of an extensive network of contacts in the film industry, the Institute helps New York City students learn filmmaking and gain important media skills.

A 2008 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network allowed several Iranian, Egyptian and Moroccan filmmakers—working primarily in documentaries and shorts—to participate in the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival.
