Syrian Women’s Forum for Peace (SWFP)

The Syrian Women’s Forum for Peace (SWFP) is a Damascus-based non-governmental organization that empowers women to play an effective and constructive role in Syria’s peace-building processes. Launched in 2012, SWFP pulls together a wide network of Syrian women and peace activists devoted to increasing women’s participation in all areas of political life. In early 2014, the group traveled to the Geneva II Conference on Syria to share its concerns and recommendations regarding the Syrian conflict. These include measures to stem the tide of weapons and militants into Syria and special programs devoted to protecting the rights of women refugees and internally displaced families.

A 2014 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network helped members of the Syrian Women’s Forum for Peace participate at the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict held in London in June 2014. SWFP’s participation allowed for the inclusion of Syrian voices in meetings with British policymakers, journalists and activists. A second 2014 grant provided support for capacity building and general operations. Donor Direct Action served as fiscal sponsor for both grants.
