Naragrantha Prabartana (via Global Fund for Women)

Narigrantha Prabartana, which means promoting women’s writings and books, is the first and only women’s resource center in Bangladesh. It was the first feminist bookstore and publishing house in the country and was conceptualized as both a bookstore and a space for women. It has been effective in introducing new issues into the women’s movement by providing published materials to activists, as well as offering space in which women can meet. Narigrantha Prabartana also created a link between the mainstream women’s movement and movements of women workers, farmers, midwives, indigenous people, and other marginalized women’s groups. Its main activities include publishing books, collecting and selling books written by and for women, organizing events with a focus on women’s issues, conducting policy advocacy for major women’s issues, participating in regional and national feminist movements, and networking with women’s organizations at the district level.

A 2015 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network support Narigrantha Prabartana’s campaign to end child marriage.
