KARAPATAN
KARAPATAN (Alliance for the Advancement of People’s Rights) is an alliance of individuals and organizations working to promote and protect human rights in the Philippines. The alliance gathers information both on particular human rights violations and on the general human rights situation in the country, which it uses for legal action and to raise public awareness of human rights issues. KARAPATAN also mobilizes resources for the various needs of political prisoners, torture victims, relatives of the disappeared, victims of extrajudicial killings, and other victims of human rights violations.
With support from the Cultures of Resistance Network, KARAPATAN planned a program in Southern Tagalog that aimed to raise awareness about human rights issues. In addition to these public education efforts, the program included paralegal training and other skills development workshops.
