American Friends of UNRWA (AFU)

American Friends of UNRWA (AFU) is a nonprofit organization organization that supports the work of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), which provides education, health care, food aid, relief services, protection, and self-empowerment programs to over 5 million Palestinian refugees living in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan. AFU aims to raise funds for UNRWA's life-saving programs and educate the U.S. public about the situation of Palestinian refugees.

A 2012 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network went towards AFU's support for the UNRWA's Special Children, Special Needs Initiative, which addresses the medical problems many Palestinian children suffer as a result of the poverty and conflict in which they live. Specifically, the grant provided orthopedic shoes to 190 Gazan children in need, helping them grapple with physical disabilities.
