African Parks

African Parks is a non-profit organization that partners with governments, wildlife preservation groups and local communities to ensure the rehabilitation and long-term management of national parks. The organization operates seven national parks in six countries: Chad, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Malawi, the Republic of Congo, Rwanda, and Zambia.

A 2020 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported essential construction of a honey processing center and offices for the Community Extension Team at the Majete Wildlife Reserve. Once an empty forest with no employment or tourism, African Parks transformed Majete into a productive and flourishing haven for Africa’s most iconic wildlife, generating revenue and benefits for local communities.

A 2014 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network helped fund a rhino-monitoring team at Majete Wildlife Reserve in Malawi, which suffered from heavy poaching in the 1980s but has since been transformed into a thriving wildlife haven.
