Mae Tao Clinic (MTC)

Founded in 1989, the Mae Tao Clinic (MTC) is a health service provider and training center established to contribute and promote accessible quality healthcare among displaced Burmese people along the Thailand–Burma border. MTC seeks to treat and prevent deaths from highly prevalent conditions within the community, such as malaria, diarrhea, and HIV. At the main clinic site in Mae Sot, the organization offers a comprehensive health care service for its patients including adult and child inpatient and outpatient services, reproductive services, surgery, eye and dental care, a prosthetics service, counseling, and acupuncture. Mae Tao Clinic also runs a second clinic in Pa Hite and four satellite clinics nearby, which together serve a population of just under 10,000 people living in 62 villages. In addition to the comprehensive services provided at its onsite facilities, MTC also promotes general health through partnerships with other community-based organisations in efforts to advocate for and implement social and legal services, as well as improve access to education for people living along the border.

The Mae Tao Clinic is a multi-year grantee.

A 2019 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network helped fund medical equipment and lab tests for patients.

Grants from the Cultures of Resistance Network in 2011, 2012, and 2013 have helped the Mae Tao Clinic to provide vital health services to marginalised Burmese populations, including maternal and child health, communicable disease control, and health promotion. In particular, the grants have helped cover basic stipends for staff, referral costs for patients, and medicine purchases. Community Partners International served as a fiscal sponsor for the 2012 and 2013 grants, and Planet Care/GHAP provided this service in 2011.
