The Jubba Airways Somaliland Marathon welcomes all runners, regardless of sex, creed, color, or national origin and aims to promote sport in Somaliland through the organization of an annual marathon and 10km race in the capital, Hargeysa. As well as encouraging more Somalis to participate in sport, the marathon showcases the hospitable country to visiting foreign athletes. Runners from thirteen countries have participated in the race. This includes runners from the United States, Italy, Ireland, Poland, United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, Djibouti, Canada, Kenya, and Ethiopia.

Al Hancock is a professional mountain climber from Canada. In 2008, Al became the thirteenth Canadian to climb the Seven Summits. In total, he has completed over twenty difficult, expedition-style summits, many with substantial vertical ice and rock sections. Al also does motivational speaking and climbs in support of Dying With Dignity.
He is currently completing the “Big 14” Challenge to summit the world’s fourteen tallest mountains.
