The Iraqi and Syrian Student Project was created by Theresa Kubasak and Gabe Huck in 2008. Originally called the Iraqi Student Project, it became the Iraqi and Syrian Student Project (ISSP) in 2016. ISSP places aspiring young students displaced by the wars in Iraq and Syria in undergraduate degree programs in the United States. A grassroots effort to help Iraqi and Syrian refugees acquire the undergraduate educations they need to participate in rebuilding their countries, ISSP’s work largely involves seeking tuition waivers and scholarships from American colleges and universities.

Molham Volunteering Team is a relief organization designed to help internally displaced Syrians inside Syria and refugees in countries of asylum. The team works in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and Turkey through a network of 170 volunteers in four different areas: medical, urgent cases, orphans, and education.
A 2019 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network provided scholarships to 100 college students at Idlib University in Syria.

The Centre Quesadhip Ruak (CQR) is an East Timor organization that aims to inform and train citizens about democracy, human rights, and legislative questions. It also supports vulnerable populations, such as the elderly, widows, single-parent families, orphans, youth, and citizens with disabilities.
A 2018 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported CQR’s scholarship program.

Islamiya University, or the Islamic University of Gaza, is an independent academic institution supervised by the Ministry of Higher Education. It provides an academic environment that adheres to Islamic principles and Palestinian traditions and customs. The university’s mission is to raise the educational, cultural, and civilization levels in the Palestinian society, to keep up with current trends in higher education and technology advancements, to encourage scientific research, and to contribute to building future generations and developing the society in a framework of Islamic values.

Dawood Global Foundation (DGF) was founded with the aim of helping build an educated, healthy, and prosperous society. The Foundation works towards this mission by promoting quality education, healthcare, and social enterprises, with a particular focus on women, minorities, youth, and the disabled. DGF also works to strengthen environmental sustainability and support institutions that include the participation of vulnerable groups.

Thanks to a collaboration between the Cultures of Resistance Network and the American Friends of SOAS (AFSOAS), two postgraduate scholarships will be available in 2014/15 at SOAS, University of London. Valued at £24,000 per student, the scholarships will be used to help their recipients meet the costs of tuition fees at the overseas rate and also help them meet any additional costs (e.g. transport, purchasing books, research costs) associated with their stay in London.

University Scholarships for South African Students (USSAS) was founded in 1990 by Professor Robert Paul Wolff to support deserving young Black men and women pursuing higher education at South Africa’s historically Black universities. In the past twenty-two years, USSAS has helped more than 1,500 young people pursue higher education in South Africa.

Thabyay Education Network’s (TEN) mission is to foster reconciliation and social justice, alleviate poverty and marginalization, and support sustainable development in Myanmar, or Burma, through higher education and professional development. TEN enables socially engaged individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds to access relevant, quality education and professional development, through which they can develop the knowledge, skills, and networks required to become architects of progressive change.

The Middle East Children’s Alliance (MECA) is a nonprofit organization working for the rights and well-being of children in the Middle East. MECA’s efforts consist of delivering aid, supporting community programs, providing university scholarships, and educating people in the U.S. about the lives and rights of children in the region. A 2012 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported MECA’s work sending shipments of medical aid, blankets, and warm clothes to Syrian refugees living in makeshift camps along the Jordanian border.
