The mission of the Sahara Conservation Fund (SCF) is to conserve the wildlife, habitats, and other natural resources of the Sahara and its bordering Sahelian grasslands. Its vision is of a Sahara that is well-conserved and where ecological processes function naturally, with plants and animals existing in healthy numbers across their historical range—a Sahara that benefits all its inhabitants and where support for its conservation comes from stakeholders across all sectors of society.

The RPPN Revecom is a wildlife sanctuary that advocates sustainable development through participatory activities. With jungle, natural wetlands, and a coastal region bordering the mighty Amazon River, RPPN Revecom’s forty-two acres contain trails, rope bridges, and wooden walkways. Marlik Marjan is a biologist working with the Wildlife Conservation Society and is a former National Geographic Emerging Explorer. Marjan undertook surveys of Southern Sudan—a region where most assumed wildlife had vanished during the civil war. His baseline research provided proof of wildlife migrations that rival even those of the Serengeti and has helped revive conservation efforts in Sudan.

Virunga National Park is Africa’s oldest national park and a World Heritage site. It is home to all of the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s critically endangered mountain gorillas, as well as important populations of chimpanzees, elephants, and other wildlife. Virunga has been at the center of the DRC’s civil wars for decades, threatened by armed militias and foreign corporate interests intent on destroying the park for profit. The ongoing conflict decimated the mountain gorilla population and caused serious economic damage to the park’s surrounding communities.

The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International, founded by Dian Fossey in 1978, is dedicated to the conservation and protection of gorillas and their habitats in Africa. The Fund is committed to promoting continued research on the gorillas and their threatened ecosystems as well as to providing education about their relevance to the world in which we live. In collaboration with government agencies and other international partners, the Fund also provides assistance to local communities through education and health initiatives.

Save the Manatee Club is an award-winning U.S.-based nonprofit and membership-based organization established in 1981 by musician Jimmy Buffett and former U.S. Senator Bob Graham. Save the Manatee aims to protect endangered manatees and their aquatic habitats for future generations. One of the organization’s campaigns is the Adopt-a-Manatee program, in which donors can help protect individual manatees living in three locations in Florida.
Support from the Cultures of Resistance Network went towards adopting 10 manatees.

PETA’s youth outreach division, peta2, mobilizes vast numbers of young people to help end animal abuse. In peta2’s peer-to-peer outreach programs, groups of young staffers attend youth-focused events such as concerts and professional skateboard tournaments, reaching thousands of teens and young adults per day. These programs, followed up with mass text messages inviting kids to join peta2’s Street Team, encourage prospective activists to get involved with animal rights campaigns and spread the “do unto others” message in their communities.
