Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP)

Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) is the name adopted by a number of U.S. student groups organizing around human rights and justice for Palestinians. In 2011, a number of activists from SJPs and other U.S. student groups focused on Palestine planned a national SJP conference to be held in the fall. The objective of the conference was to democratically shape and refine the existing network of SJP groups in the United States.

Specifically, the conference aimed to develop coordination and cooperation between different student groups working for justice in Palestine within the United States; to facilitate and support the advancement of existing campaigns and the development of new campaigns with particular emphasis on the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) strategy; to stimulate thought and debate on a small number of key political issues surrounding the Palestinian cause; and to provide student groups with the tools and skills necessary to develop educational programs, plan and execute campaigns, and train their peers to better communicate with one another and with other members of the student body.

A 2011 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network provided travel subsidies for students attending the first national SJP conference in New York City in September 2011.
