Justiça Global

Justiça Global is a non-profit organization in Brazil that promotes human rights in order to build a society with social, political, and civil rights, and that is free from racism, sexism and any form of discrimination. Justiça Global is committed to social movements and struggles and provides support through advocacy and litigation in international organizations for the protection of human rights.

A 2024 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported Justiça Global’s work related to litigation efforts to protect human rights.

A 2018 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported Justiça Global’s work around the worst mining-related environmental disaster in Brazil’s history. In November 2015, the collapse of a dam led to the deaths of nineteen people and unleashed waste that spread 650 kilometers. More than 3.2 million people, including indigenous peoples and traditional communities, lived in the affected region of the Rio Doce basin. Mining companies and the state failed to offer the necessary compensation for the violations suffered both by the people and the environment. Justiça Global’s project aimed to report the case to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, strengthen the affected communities, promote the case internationally, and claim reparations for the victims from both the Brazilian government and the mining companies involved.
