Equality Now

Founded in 1992, Equality Now is an international human rights advocacy organization whose mission is to achieve legal and systemic change that addresses violence and discrimination against women and girls around the world. Equality Now was among the first international advocacy organizations to use human rights campaigning methodologies to ensure that governments uphold their commitments to women and girls in international and national law.

Equality Now chooses to highlight cases based on the severity and pervasiveness of the violations, as well as the structural and political systems in place that are conducive to effective campaigning. The organization is committed to bringing the initiatives of grassroots organizations working on the frontlines to the international level as well as always ensuring that its participation will add value to those groups' efforts. Equality Now's strategies include awareness-raising in the media, partnering and developing coalitions, strengthening international and regional human rights law, conducting strategic litigation, and mobilizing financial and capacity-building support for local groups.

A 2012 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported Equality Now's work on combatting sex trafficking.
