National Priorities Project (NPP)
The National Priorities Project (NPP) aims to make the United States government’s complex federal budget transparent and accessible so people can exercise their right and responsibility to influence how their tax dollars are spent. NPP is a research organization dedicated to translating the federal budget’s raw and often opaque numbers into clear, accessible, and engaging reports and web-based tools. Along with this work, the organization works to increase public interest in the budget and to build citizens’ capacity to affect government spending. NPP believes the U.S. federal budget will reflect the values and priorities of the majority of Americans when all people have the opportunity and ability to participate in shaping the nation’s budget.
The National Priorities Project (NPP) is a multi-year grantee.
A 2014 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported NPP’s research, capacity building, and communications activities to: bring to light important data about the Pentagon war slush fund; educate voters on Pentagon spending as an election issue; offer trainings for activists and community leaders at the state and local level; and provide tools for citizen action so Americans can make their budget priorities heard.
A 2012 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported NPP’s Move the Money project, a workshop dedicated to giving budget advocates the capacity, tools, and resources they need to make the strongest case possible for reducing top-line Pentagon spending.
A 2011 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported NPP’s If I Had a Trillion Dollars (IHTD) youth video project, which asks young people to express their thoughts about the government’s annual military spending, war appropriations, and tax cuts for the wealthiest citizens.
